Spinal Decompression Therapy Frequently Asked Questions

St. Augustine Spine Center provides non-surgical spinal decompression therapy for patients throughout St. Augustine, St. Johns County, Ponte Vedra Beach, Palm Coast, Vilano Beach, Hastings, and surrounding Northeast Florida communities.

Below are common questions about our disc rehabilitation program, spinal decompression therapy, treatment candidacy, costs, insurance, and what patients may expect during care.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Disc Rehabilitation Program

We have developed a non-surgical spinal rehabilitation program for conditions of the lumbar spine and cervical spine, with a focus on chronic and severe cases. The program may include spinal decompression therapy, therapeutic exercises, laser therapy, braces, nutrition, home care, E-stim, physiotherapy, and spinal manipulation when appropriate.

Disc problems may include bulging discs, herniated discs, ruptured or protruding discs of the lumbar spine or cervical spine, degenerative discs, facet joint syndrome, sciatica, mild spondylolisthesis, radiculopathy, and spinal stenosis or pinched nerve symptoms.

Results vary by patient. St. Augustine Spine Center evaluates each patient carefully and only recommends care when the doctors believe the patient may be an appropriate candidate for treatment.

The cost is based on the recommended treatment plan. During your consultation, the doctor will determine whether you are a candidate and explain costs before care begins. If you are not a candidate for care, the doctor will explain that recommendation.

Different types of insurance cover different costs associated with therapy. We are happy to check your coverage levels during your first appointment so you understand your benefits and any possible costs before beginning treatment.

Flexible payment plan options may be available to accommodate many patient needs. Our team can review available options with you before treatment begins.

Treatment frequency and duration depend on the patient’s condition and care plan. Some programs may involve visits several days per week for several weeks, with sessions often lasting approximately 45 to 60 minutes.

Our goal is to help patients achieve long-lasting relief and improved function. Some patients may also benefit from periodic follow-up or maintenance care depending on their condition and response to treatment.

Most patients are able to maintain a work schedule. If your work includes physically demanding activity, we may recommend a brace or temporarily limit certain work activities at the beginning of your care program.

Some conditions may be contraindications, including severe osteoporosis, myelitis, ankylosing spondylitis, recent fractures, unstable spondylolisthesis with pars defects, cancer, tumors, or other conditions that compromise the spinal column.

Some patients with prior low back surgery may still be candidates, depending on the type of surgery, current symptoms, implantable devices, imaging findings, and examination results.
